Program Description:

Provides professional nursing care to patient according to established; procedures; coordinates health care planning with other disciplines.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Directs supports staff as appropriate in provision of patient care. Maintains awareness of staff workload; supervises certified nurse assistance.


Essential Job Functions–

  • Develops implements, evaluates and manages the care and education of the patient.
  • Assesses triages and intervenes for emergency room patients.
  • Performs outpatient treatments as directed per the provider
  • Monitors, maintains and records accurate patient care documentation
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and delegate patent care appropriately
  • Must be able to recognize, respond and intervenient with any change of condition
  • Acts as facilitator/preceptor to less experienced staff.

Participates in Direct Patient care –

  • Assess patients on daily basis and determine appropriate nursing care plan and update as needed
  • Must be able to adequately do a medical screening exam on every patient that comes into the emergency room and report assessment  to the provider.
  • Administer medications and documents in patient medical record
  • Follows policy regarding narcotic administration, usage and waste.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Maintains accurate, clear documentation and communication of patient information
  • Reports all critical labs and any and all changes in patient condition.
  • Maintains departmental policy and procedure and participates in quality improvement programs
  • Adheres to safety, environmental and infection control standards

Continuous Professional Development – 5%

  • Seek educational opportunities that will expand the level of knowledge and expertise related to the nursing field.
  • Participates in hospital in-services and staff meetings to keep current with any new policies, procedures and equipment.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree:      Desirable

Associate Degree:      Required

High School Diploma:   Required

Experience:               Prefer a minimum of one year of clinical experience in a hospital or clinic setting.

License:                   Current Kansas Registered Nurse License

Certificates, Registrations: CPR, ACLS, PALS, TNCC                      .


Reasoning Abilities:

Demonstrates competent and critical thinking skills. Recognizes report and intervenes with complications that may develop with patient.


Temperament:

Must be friendly and helpful yet exhibit professionalism as this is a patient care department and everyone is our customer.
